Installed this morning.

Installation if by far the easiest I've dealt with, full install only takes 10 minutes. I just deleted my existing Fedora partition via Windows Vista, and it used the free space.

Wireless works straight out of the box, and just had to install the drivers for my Nvidia graphics card.

True Type fonts installed

sudo apt-get install ttf-mscorefonts-installer

I will have a look at this, i quite like the Ubuntu distro, the previous edition wasn't that good IMO.

I got the impression 8.10 was a bit of a step back from 8.04, as that worked fine on all my hardware, but I never got 8.10 installed (apart from on the PS3 the other week)

One thing to try to keep xorg settings from login with the nvidia card

gksudo nvidia-settings

Resolution is going back to 800x600 when I log in.

also need to enable the restriced/multiverse repositories, in System->Administration->Software Sources

Just upgraded the Desktop to 9.04 as well. Need to get the stuff working on there now

Everything worked out of the box as well on the desktop. Only real problem was having to take to PC downstairs to plug it into the router to download the restricted driver for the wireless card.

Also got this running on my 6 year old Laptop. Installed no problems, everything seems to be working. Just need to get the PCMCIA wireless card working.

what make and model of PCMCIA wireless card have you got. On the previous version 8.10 i had difficultly using USR5410 wireless card.

It's a Netgear WG511v2, again, the card itself it almost 5 years old. Can't seem to get it working, but it's working fine on ethernet, and the laptop is pretty stable as well.

Finally made the full switch to Ubuntu on my Desktop. Got everything working I wanted as well, including both sound cards, and the Nvidia graphics card.
