I have spoken to Peco the exhaust peeps yesterday and today about a sports cat for my coupe. They have an ad in the current Total Vauxhall mag for sports cats. The guy to speak to is Gerry Darlington on 0151 647 6041, very nice bloke.

I have just ordered a full front pipe, no precat fitted and with a 200 cell sports cat fitted for £329 delivered, unbolt the old one and bolt in the new one. Plus the new pipe is EC marked as required for MOT, unlike some of the weld in cat replacements. Delivery should be three or four days from Germany.

I thought this sounded a good deal, no messing with welding bits in and it is EC marked.

I'll let you all know how well it fits when I get it.

I would think so Gazza, probably the same price. Give Gerry a call but make sure you have your chassis no to hand as he will need it to confirm the fit.

This is an easier way of removing the precat, plus you get the 200 cell sports cat. I wish I'd bought it before removing my precat, it would have been easier

Had a call from Peco today to tell me that they have my pipe in, but, the German manufacturer had fitted the precat and whats more it was a 400 cell precat !!!!!!! Whats the point in that.... if the main cat is 200 cell, there's no improvement at all. Bloody Germans.

They could have either had Germany make a new one with no precat at all or they said they could remove the precat in the one they have and ship it to me like that, so thats what I'm having. Should be with me Thursday.

Pipe turned up yesterday and looks like a good quality bit of kit all stainless and it has an E mark. I have been told that if you fit a sports cat without an E mark an on the ball MOT tester could fail the car, same as non E marked race cans on bikes.

Pipe is now fitted to car, kit even came with new manifold nuts and a manifold gasket !!! Easy enough to fit, just the same work as doing the precat. This pipe has no precat in it.

Does not seem to be much difference in sound and have not driven the car far yet as I fitted this pipe and then went for a few beers and a barbeque, so maybe tomorrow we'll see what difference there is.

yep, I think if I remeber right there was a post on here a while back and the result was that removing the cat altogether would bring the light on an bugger other bits up too. So the best option is the sports cat.

As you're an mot tester, is is right as I was told above that the cat should have an E marking ???

as long as it passes the emmisions m8 theres no probb..as thers no reason for rejection listed in the bible for not being e marked

As said in the earlier popst, Jerry Darlington is the man to speak to, very helpful and seems a genuine guy, we had a delay cos of a couple of points but he called me, so can't say fairer than that.

Make sure you ask for the precat to be taken out. If they make it to order they will not put one in if you ask.

also may be a daft question but is there anyway of telling if it is a 200 cell sports cat they have fitted ?

Not sure onthe discount, have to ask.

Don't know how you tell if the cat is 200 cell or 400 cell, just have to take their word for it. I'm sure that a named company wouldnt take the risk of flouting all the trading rules under the sun by passing off a 400 cell unit as a 200 cell unit.
