Oil level again.

Right then guys.

With all this talk of a few members killing the z22se with oil starvation it made me even more wary to check the level.

I normally check at least once a week esp with the traveling i do. and it does tend to burn the 5-30 a bit more then the 10-40.

So i checked it this morning it was about half way on the dip stick. So i topped up just less the 450ml . Drove to work and back checked the oil after waiting 5 mins it showed on the same place as in the morning. topped up 250ml restarted the engine and then left it for 5 -8 mins and then the reading was at max.

Just seems weird how these reading are a bit hit and miss dunno..

Ahh tell me about it i did 250 mile on motorway and the next day when i started car i could hear the chain, So i checked oil and nothing in so i topped back up!!

if your certain the car is getting through oil then your best off changing it every few thousands miles

if you think that your going to run out of oil by then you should be seeing it and smelling it coming out ya exhaust

i dont use the dipstick and i know my car aint burning oil

did 6k last time i did an oil change and she had the good part of 4 litres coming out

my advice is dont use the dipstick if u aint burning it off

when changing oil only put 4.75 litres in and make sure it is drained before adding new oil

also unplug coil pack and turn her over for a good 10 seconds before you start her up after oil change

i personally beleive the rattle u get on cold start is the chain bouncing up and down off the cam cover and it is a sticking tensioner

The car does get a fresh change every 6k and always with 4.75 litres

I agree i can tell when my car is ready for a small top up but not to check the oil level on the dipstick isnt the best advice i have ever heard TBH.

As said it just seems a bit hit and miss with readings thats all.

yeah would would be the best way ??? just to be sure you have the right amount i get so many diffrent readings lol

Crazy isn't it, exactly the same problem I get, must say I've never had this problem with any other car I've had, including my last 2001 Omega, so damn annoying :wtf: is going on!!

done several oil changes on a vec b and vec c and both times after putting 4.75 litres in and letting the car run for 5 minutes i am unable to get the right level on the dipstick

i would go as far as saying that you cant get an accurate reading

could be the thickness of genuine vxhall 10/40, suppose the 5/30 oil would help get a better idea based on dipstick readings

all i am saying is that u cant use the dipstick to accuratly top the oil up

if your car is burning oil then i dont know wot to say

mine has 109k on the clock and she dont burn oil full stop
