Unbelievable!!

Well i've finally sorted out the knocking/ rattling noise i've been getting https://z22se.co.uk/viewtopic.php?f=61&t=12463

I couldn't understand why, if it was my exhaust making the noise, everytime i braked when going over any bumps it stopped. notsure.gif
Also when slowing down if i dabbed my brakes i could hear a clunking noise notsure.gif

Anyway, i decided to take a closer look at my brakes tonight with the wheels off, i've recently had some new calipers fitted and thought maybe the problem lied with them...turns out i was right!!

Upon closer inspection the two torx bolts bolting my calipers on where loose, in fact they were almost falling off!! The garage hadn't bothered to tighten them so my calipers were moving about and making the banging/ rattling noise!

I can't believe that they did it! I was fuming! :evil:

You are very lucky mate, i would give them some shit !! Thats just not on!! They most likely had an apprentice working on them and they forgot. I always tell a garage not to let an apprentice work on my brakes,if i need pads or whatever changing.

I just couldn't believe it when i checked last night, i dread to think what could have happened!

yeh go down and demand they replace the discs and pads

you dont know wot condition they are in

if they dont then threaten em with trading standards

Ive had my breaks done all around and im haveing the same problem i only had the pads changed, but im sure it's the centre section exhaust, however reading this ill be checking now. Glad you got it sorted m8 and you have to go give them some sh!t

No didn't take any pics...but i can alway unscrew them again to how i found them and do it 😃

I'll definitely take it further, it would have been bad enough something happening with just me in the car never mind if i'd have had the little one with me!!

OK i checked my brakes well i think i was checking the right thing. and also i was under car checking and wiggling everything and still nothing. i tested the car today by driving over speed bumps and the noise is still their.. however when i brake while going over bumps the noise doesn't happen is this the same as you boxer? and can anyone shed a bit of light on it

Sounds like it could be the drop links very very common issue with the astra.

what are the drop links m8?were are they and have you a picture lol

think he means the arb links

they connect to the steering gear and suspension arms

when there is play in the arb links then u will notice banging when braking and accelerating, changing down gears and going over bumps and holes

the big bolts & rubber washer connecting the suspension arm to the underside of the car can make a nasty bang

I'd imagine its more than likely your arb links though mate. If you've had your brakes done recently just check the torx bolts see if there loose, give your caliper a wiggle...its probably something else though...unless you had them done at the same garage as me! lol.

That really is bad. I had something similar on my first car, I took it in for a service, and he checked all the brakes etc, and on the way home, the brake pedal went straight to the floor. Pulled over, and there was brake fluid all over the inside of my alloys! Called the AA out, and the garage hadn't tightened up the brake lines into the calipers!

When I phoned the garage to tell them, he said "well if you drive back here, we'll sort it for you"! Don't think so.....

Mine is the same as boxers however ive checked the brakes and all is well, and it's a knock followed by a rattle but when i hit a bump and slightly press my brake it doesnt happen.

thats bad matt i had my front wheel come off after having a new gear box turned out the bolts had been cross freded and impacted in then just come out when i was going around a corener was not a happy bunny but glad ya found it in time boxer
