Hi, found out mine is the piston rings, is it a big job and how much to fix please?
cheers
Paid £146 for head gasket, bolts and rings last week when I done mine.
Took me 2-5hrs to strip engine on first afternoon then spent a few hours with a bottle of wine cleaning the pistons (wine was for drinking!). Best way to clean a piston ring grove is with the old rings, snap one and use it to gently clear the carbon out of the groves
Next day Rings arrived around 11.00 and by 1500 I had the pistons back in, sump on, head on, chain back on and cam cover re-fitted. Then spent a few hours on the third day attaching ancillery components. Engine started first flick of the key as well.
Bearing in mind I'm an experienced mechanic total time was around 10 hours to rebuild lying on back outside house with car on axel stands. Had already done the Valve Stem Seals when I removed the head the week before. In a workshop enviroment I imagine a Z22SE rebuild is possible in a day, maybe longer if Valve Stem Seals done but then again thats what the Apprentice is for! !
