Yes Matt, I got there in the end. What I thought was going to be a half hour job turned into most of the day. I had to buy some new amp extensions or so I thought? I went to Halfords to get some that i'd seen on their website but they don't stock them in the 2 'Ripspeed Superstores' near me, bunch of twats!
I then went to walk into Maplins and walked into the glass door because they didn't open until 11am! Doh, sore forehead!!
Went home, went out a bit later and still couldn't get the cables so settled for some el cheapo cables. Got home again, started looking for some bullet connectors and opened up a bag which contained gold plated 4 way 0.5 mtr interconnects that I used to use many years ago and forgot that I had them in the garage, result!
Anyway, out with the old and in with the new. Got my 6 disc shuttle out the garage too and loaded up my USB memory stick and I was away. The old interface cables I have taken out for now and i'm going to order the all in one steering control and MFD interface.
On first impressions its much more complicated than my old one but then I am indeed getting old myself and the grey hair is needing to be cut more often so I had to print out the owners manual as you just get the manual on a disc nowadays. The chap said yesterday that I should just load it on my laptop and refer to it when i'm in the car! Laptop??? He must have thought that I was upto date with modern technology!! pmsl..
I couldn't even set the clock! Anyway, its all up and running now. And its all connected to the OE loom. My old unit had to have a live feed direct from the battery and had to be earthed directly to the chassis. This was literally plug & play. Very happy. I've just popped out and taken a couple of pics but they're not very good. Car is away in the garage now.
