TB Porting - Do I Need To Remove More?

Obviously I haven't sanded / polished the sides yet 🙂

These are the area that feel as though more could be removed to completely smooth the airflow, but the walls of the tb look very thin, is it safe to attack these, or best left alone...

PS - there is no option to say I've removed too much 😃 (I've left a few mm's from where the gate touches the housing)

Well, I took off a little more, then decided it was a bad idea, so started sanding with wet'n'dry

Then polishing:

Just need to wait for the 'proper' M4x6 countersunk screws to arrive, I didn't read the small print, and the ones I bought from ebay are measures as 6mm total length, only giving 3mm thread; so I've ordered some M4x10 :crazy:

i have one of these that i have started polishing up, but how do you 'port' them what does that involve

There are a few guides knocking around on here, essentially you are trying to remove any restrictions, or inconsistencies in the airflow

I don't have any before pics, but these pics show one of the main ridges to remove - in fairness I've prob gone a bit overboard on the one shown above - will wait and see what it feels like!

Tapping out the holes to M4x0.7 pitch-

First pass with the dremel over the ridge

Second time - still a bit of material left

And done 🙂

Manderin when I ported my first TB I almost completely removed the ridge leaving only the the idle position untouched (you can see about a 2mm gap from above with the butterfly in its rest position). The side effects were it took a little longer to settle to idle from cold and when the weather warmed up (don't know why I did not get this problem all winter) I started to occasionally get the error code you get with the 2.4 TB. So obviously I was getting a bit to much air in at lower revs. Its problem was with the 2.4 manifold so a standard 2.2 mani may be ok. I now have a different TB with less material removed.

I may try the more extreme TB when I get my 2.5" exhaust and weapon R manifold fitted to see if the improved flow solves the problem.

Hi, Do you get many problems when you fit a ported and polished TB? Is it bad for the engine in the long run? notsure.gif

it is the lips either side of the butterfly mate

the z22se engine has a map sensor and if more air flow is coming through on idle it will seriously FU the fueling, increased engine load, increased injector pulse

Fitted it tonight - that bolt with the extended stud is a real PITA - I cut it off as it doesn't seem to be used for anything notsure.gif

It idles fine, exactly as with the last throttle body, haven't had chance to take it for a blast to see whether it's made a difference yet though 🙂

the extended stud is for a cable clip on the vectra/astra/zafira models

Hopefully ill be fitting my new TB this weekend that i got off Mikes, which he sent to Vocky to get Ported and Polished for me. I got it in the post this morning but have to wait till the weekend to fit it. Again ill like to thanks you guys for going out of your way, if you ever need anything from Ireland id be only be happy to help out. :thumbup:

i toke my 1 off at the weekend and degunked it all and polished it abit but i starting to think i should smooth it out abit what gains would you expect ??? or would it just be better throttle respones ???
