Major problems..... new engine! :(

Hi everyone
I bought a 2.2 Sri last month knowing there was a slight tapping noise coming from the front, done an oil change and the tapping got quiet.
Last weekend was travelling on dual carriageway and the car began to loose power I couldn't go beyond 50mph although my foot was to the floor, thankfully got it home.
Took it into my Vauxhall dealers monday morning and just from starting it up the mechanic reckoned the timing was out and that the cam chain has slipped. I left the car there for them to give it a look over as was advised not to drive it 🙁

I then received a phone call this morning to say the car needs...
Manifold
Head Gasket
Rockers
Chain & Cam chaft

The timing is out and there is damage to the lobes on the camchaft and that the oil is not getting to the head.

All in all a £950 job.... my best bet is to get a whole new engine I imagine and will hopefully work out cheaper. If anyone knows of anyone that's got one going cheap please let me know. I'm from Norwich

by the time you get a second hand engine fitted plus you may not know if the chain has been replaced on the S/H engine so would be best to have one fitted It will prob work out the same price

yeah last thing I want is fitting new engine and the chain already on it is rubbish... only look like a bicycle chain as it is! lol

if the oil isn't reaching the cam then replace the engine, that is not a good sign on the z22se engine, several engines have been scrapped due to that fault.

Best bet as already advised is to get another engine, try searching on ebay

these 2.2 engines seem too be crap...wish i never bought mine .had an old vectra v6 p reg before my x reg and i know what i should have kept.going use mine for a year and get my monies worth then im turning japansese and getting a imprezza...sumit reliable and u aint worrying bout chains etc all time

Dont get an Impreza if you want reliabilty they have a choclate bottom end that fails. They are heavily prone to bad fueling issues and are very expensive to put right i know i used to do them weekly.
