DIY SC, How much?

I've been looking at the supercharger route for a while now in my astra and just wondered about the costs involved for a DIY project? Also are there and full DIY kits you can buy or even a parts required list?
I've had a quick look at other posts but was unable to find anything, sorry if this has all been covered before!!

I'm in the process of doing it. Its costing me about 3k going in at around stage 2. I have included in that price a pro alloy water rad but not a performance exhaust. (its on a VX). I would expect its possible to find bits cheaper reducing the price but I really cant be bothered to look that hard.

I have a choice between going for a 2.2 SC or having a vxr engine and box put in for about 3000-3500 which would you lot go for?

2.2 sc would be a better engine package, no turbo lag and far better power delivery 8)

what are they like to drive?

The only thing that puts me off is the fact that its costs 6000 from courtenay sport.

yeah i see what your sayin but i now i think about it, i would rather spend 3500 and have the vxr put in for the simple fact its a newer engine, more tunable and is built for forced induction

The 2.2 in a way was built for forced induction as very little changed for the subsequent GM 2.0 LSJ engine.

a z22se sc is far better than a z20let

I know many will think thats wrong, but drive both and you would agree

We don't have the same definition for "newer" engines...
The VXR engine is still a Z20LEx, these are basically 25 year old engines !

The Z22SE (L850 family) are not yet 10 year old

I thought the Z20LEx where the new VX turbo engine since 1998ish ,
before that it was the C20LET which is totally different engine.

I'm halfway through, just waiting on parts from CS. Its not too challenging.

I've done two stage 2 sc conversions, it's not hard, just very time consuming, especially if you want it to look like a factory install.

don't forget all the small items like; an oil catch tank, the inlet manifold adaptors, 2 x long M6 bolts for the inlet manifold, a charge cooler pump + wiring for the pump, moving the ecu, new air intake system, the correct size belt, plus loads of different nuts / bolts / washers, a charge cooler, extra cooling fans, pipework etc, etc....
