Timing marks

Hi, Can anyone tell me where the timing mark pointer is on the chain cover please? I've found the cut-out in the crank pulley but can't find the pointer or mark on the cover. What area - ie top, bottom, right or left is it located? Thanks. notsure.gif

Thanks for those picks vocky they will be useful, but I haven't got that far yet I'm trying to find the mark on the chain cover so I can set TDC with the crank pulley before stripping it down. Any ideas on that?

Hi there isn't one on the cover, because you have to time them up with the cover off

take number 1 plug out, use a very long screwdriver, crank over the engine by hand until the screwdriver does not lift any higher, thats TDC and then the timing marks on the cam sprockets should be at 10 'O' clock exhaust and 2 'O' clock inlet

There is, I found it in the end. It's shown in the 'PDF timing chain guide' section. It's roughly in the 10 o'clock position on the top part of the cover. I've got it all finished now, will put a post up on what I found later.

yes there is a mark, but it's not the easiest to spot !

I know, you'd expect it to be at the bottom of the cover!

what makes it worse is usually the chassis covers that area and you cannot even see it. I only know it's there as I have three engines sat in my shed and can easily see it.
