just mentioned this to my mrs who's well up on this kind of thing.
She said basically u shud have signed for it and wrote unchecked on the del note..that way you would have had some rights basically...
she's says u could contact trading standards but as it was off ebay shes not sure how u will stand with it,but defo give em a ring for advice,because retail law actually states ,if an item id purchased for a particular job,and the item u purchased cannot do the jobs it intended for,then u are legally entitled to a refund...
