Hi all, I've already introduced myself on the newbie section.
A few months ago I got myself a Vectra hatch 2.2 SRi. I used to have a '98 - 2 litre, which I'd owned from one year old, but someone decided to drive into me and write it off. It had only done 62000 miles and was in perfect nick.
Anyway I found this nice black 2.2 on the adtrader website. One owner, full service history and 66000 miles. 51 reg, Jan. 02. I've sorted a few niggly problems but there's one left to do. This is where I need the advice from you guys.
I've got this whining/droning noise which is most noticable at low speed and tickover. It seems to deepen when ticking over at around 700 rpm. It seems to be coming from the timing chain cover area. I was hoping it was something simple like the alternator but I don't think it is. Do you guys think it's the water pump or the chain itself?
I haven't checked it out yet, but I would think it's the original chain.
There's one other thing: if I change gear below 3000 revs the engine speed seems to rise a bit (when de-clutching) before falling. Is this normal? can I get it cured by Vauxhall altering the ecu? Thanks in anticipation guys. 🙂
