knocking noise

Ive just put 40mm lowering springs on my car and now theres a knocking noise when going over speed bumps and sumtimes when turning corners, i have no idea what it could be?!?! notsure.gif

sounds like it is bottoming out

look under the arches for scuffing

or even better look under the car 🙂

theres slight scuffing on the plastic inner arches, its on standard shocks aswell. is there any way of stopping it or do i hav 2 get shorter shocks uprated bump stops? its the 1.8 16v - 2.0 16v springs i fink they r the right ones? also on the rear springs the top coils all touch?

just jump up and down on each corner of the car and you can replicate the banging

i wouldn't touch 60 mm drops without some decent shocks

sri vectras are already about 20 - 30 mm lower than standard so if you lower it even more then you need to know exactly what your doing

last time i dropped a car was on my nova gte and i dropped it 60 mm on the back and 40 mm on the front, handled a lot better round bends 🙂

its lowered just 40mm, 20mm more than the standard sri spec. so its not that big of a drop dnt know why its knocking

take a front wheel off and look at the gap on the shocks, is there any play ?, also are the springs proper compressed ?

well the fronts arent that compressed but top few coils of the rear springs are really compressed and touching. they are racedynamic springs for the 1.8 16v - 2.0 16v, i dont know if they are not stiff enough or cannot take the weight? it sits really nicely nd its startin 2 bug!?!?!?!

nah not that i disconnected them and it still knocked? i fink it mite be the spring coils hitting each other? but it donts when turning corners aswell im confused. should the top coils of the rear springs b touching (showed in pic)?

they shouldn't touch, but I know they do on those make of springs.

are koni, Pi springs etcs a different design?

i bought some pi springs for my nova gte and they were shite

they couldnt handle the weight and kept bottoming out

chucked on some koni springs and bingo !

when they bottom out is it quite a loud knock like the cars gonna fall apart? and does it happen when goin round corners?

feels like the car is gonna fall apart

the noise is quite distressing

i got it going over small holes in the road

i looked at the springs and there was no play left in them so it was just bottoming out without much effort

cheers m8, do i go for v6 ones or 2.0 16v ones, coz i brought 1.8 - 2.0 16v springs nd i dnt fink they r stiff enuff. but ive read on this that the v6 springs make the front end sit higher?

you need 20 16v springs, do not fit v6 springs - IT WILL RAISE THE FRONT END !
