FLD Took the old waggon on a little drive round yesturday (120m). Get home and the dipstick didnt reach the oil. Lucky I checked and lucky it didnt get too low!! Now I can see oil all round the pass side undertray vent. Stripped off the tray and I've well lubricated most of the bottom half. Its not the sump bung as it seems to be from somewhere over the starter. It doesn't appear to be the filter housing. I've narrowed it down to the hose going into the block or the sensor next to it. How the hell do I get to this to check, the upper starter bolt appears near impossible to get at!! What is that sensor just above the starter and is it a viable suspect for my leak? Any other ideas? Cheers all, I appreciate your ideas / suggestions. Matt
MikeS crank sensor and knock sensor are located on the block behind starter motor u also got the oil level sensor on the top of the sump hoses ?
FLD I have a sensor in the bottom of the sump that I thought was the oil level one. Its not plugged in to anything though (VX220). My prime suspects are the oil return hose from the cooler and the sensor right next to it (not sure what this is). It the sensor isn't into the oil jacket that'd rule it out.
FLD Hmmm, finally got at it and it looks intact and was bolted in firmly. Any other prime candidates around the inlet side of the motor? knock sensor is tight as are oil hoses. I've just been out with tissue round the oil filter housing but came back dry. Is it just the top ring and pipes where this can leak? I'd be surprised if this is it as I cant get the lid off to change the filter (its on my to do list).
FLD Have now and its dry. Its more over round the back of the engine where its wet. I'm at a loss. Hate going to garages as I always feel robbed but I'm getting to that state now! dunno..
FLD This general area is all oily. This is a spare motor I have in my shed, now less its crank sensor.
FLD Not easy in a VX engine bay but heres a few which may be a bit close or dodgy angles. Could it be the crank seal? I know theres a TSB on this one. Engine was replaced about 4k ago on the camchain oiler jet TSB!
vocky mine did exactly the same, it's a very common problem on the vx220 especially after changing the oil filter, a new pair of seals sorts it 🙂 SEAL,RING,OIL COOLER CONNECTOR TO OIL FILTER 2 off 9198195
FLD Already on order. Strange they fail after changing the filter. Guess the pressure increases a bit. Funny thing is I haven't managed to get into my filter housing yet.
vocky it's just the way the oil cooler adaptor fits onto the engine, undoing the oil filter loosens the adaptor slightly and this seems to wear out the seal, which are very thin 🙁
FLD Just a quicky. I have the short socket to take the top off (very tight). When I've got the top off it looks like I need some sort of C-spanner to get at the oil cooler seals. Is this right? Thanks
vocky yes it's very tight down there 🙁 I used a massive pair of plumbers pliers whilst the inlet manifold was off.
sis excuse me, that in this topic, but for me to leak oil on connection of engine and transmission. there is a drainage pin-hole and from oil drops there. from where can motor leak oil ?
