shaking engine

hi people
ok my first post have a vectra c 2.2i sri z22se now and again it feels like the car is shaking only feel when idleing sometimes it doesnt happen. i notice it when i pulled up at traffic lights its like the front end is shaking so lifted the bonnit and i can see the engine rocking, anyone have any ideas. read could possibley be something to do with spark plugs or bad petrol. but i wouldnt think it anyone with more of an idea.

no eml light ?

clean out throttle body ?

does she rev fine and got power up the rev range ?

thanks for responding to be honest ive just got the car had 2.0 dti wish was slow so decided to 2.2i sri she seems to rev fine although at first thought i wasnt gettin much power but once i got used to dropping the gear which didnt have to do in the diesel . she flies theres no eml light. havent cleaned out the throttle body. that shaking thing almost feels like its going to cut out. but doesnt. some time its fine nothing other times it shakes

is there out i can do to sort this. should i clean the throttle body to see how that goes.

yeh and unplug the battery for an hour

dont drive it hard for about 30 miles and come back to us if she starts to play up again

usually i find if the engine is lumpy, does it feel like it is misfiring but it aint, the engine bouncing up and down ?

yeah thats how it feels, cheers will give that a try and come back if works or dont cheers for advice.

ok mate cleaned throttle body out etc and started still same problem. i have noticed that when revs go over 1200-1300 the shakin of the engine stops when drop again starts again any ideas.

i was lookin at someone saying cleanind idle air valve out but i dont no were it is located also clean small hole near butterfly on throttle body, bud couldnt see it dont no if you have a picture to point these out.

if she is revving fine up to redline with no hesitation then it is hard to find the problem

is the engine tapping or making tapping noises when starting up ?

not realy sometimes theres a slight noise but nothing bat realy slight noise abit tinny. is there a way to check coil pack

there is no idle bypass valve on the z22se, it could be the plugs need changing or the coil pack

....not sure if this is of any revelence but I've recently took the T/B and EGR off to clean as it wasn't idling correctly.....after cleaning it it was fine but noticed the engine shaking and you could feel it thru the brake pedal when pressed....then the EML light came on!!!!! I've took the EGR back off and like a numpty I had put the metal gasket on the wrong way so the valve solonoid couldn't shut off......since rectifying this it's been fine.
I'm not an expert (as you may of guessed)so may have nothing to with this but thought it might help!!!! dunno..

ok i no i should off probably check spark plug first but didnt have the tool to get them out so i have and when i looked in one spark plug well is full of what looks like coolant cryb.. i dont think this is good rite answers please.

cracked head or HG failure

needs to be compression tested or pressure tested - either way sounds like the head needs to come off and be inspected

go get a compression tester [halfrauds] and check the cylinders one by one - cost about 15 quid but it is pretty futile as to where the coolant come from - could be worth it to find which cylinder is not hitting compression - they should all be around 12 bar

if your stuck for money then take the head off yourself and go get it checked out and if it is cracked then you can source a 2nd hand head, if it is the head gasket then no big deal, you take it to a vxhall dealership it gonna cost u a few hundred for them to just diagnose the fault then the expensive bit begins

i had the same problem with a shakin engine in idle

also my chain was making a noise.
a day later it stalled on start up,after further investigation discovered the chain tensioner packed up and the chain slipped.

is does state in the haynes manual a tooth out can cause engine vibration

ok had car in garage today. put on computer no fault and couldnt find nothing said try new coil pack but couldnt say for sure it was that. anyway i had dried the coolant out of the well a few days ago had no clue how it got there nor did the garage. but he suggested before i buy a new coil pack give the one i had a good shake out cos might be water in it anyway as i shook it started to get bits of water dripping out of the one were water was in the well(if that makes sence) so i dried it with cotton buds and a hairdryer put it in the car and so far so good 🙂 so il give it tomorrow and if still no shaking i asume its sorted. were the coolant came from is still a mistery so puzzled with that bit.

i have recently got the car and am wondering because when i got it that it was alright. that the person befor could have had a coolant pipe leek and its squirted in that direction and has took a little bit to get into coil pack i havent a clue but it sorted for now. and thanks for all suggestions

guess what more water in the spark plug put foot down and next time got in lumpy again so back to solving the problem back to garage monday. 🙁

you got to remember it is near enough water tight in the spark plug recesses

for water to get in there then u have to tip a bucket of water on top of the cam cover and even still i doubt it would go that far

apparently he said it was condensation leak from cam cover

i dont believe it as the water would be like gunk from mixing with oil

could always try a new cam cover seal and see how u get on
