EGR Blank

Fitted one today but not sure if I've done it right after reading more into it now! - Basically I removed the valve, fitted a blank with the old gasket underneath and put the valve back on at about 45 degrees clockwise via one bolt (bottom/right one) so that the vlave can still operate.

Is this ok, as after reading a bit more I'm thinking I need to take the pipe off and blank the bottom end/block??

I've noticed the smell of hot air/exhaust air in the car now after about 5 mins of starting from cold, it goes after a few mins, is that normal?

there should be no difference, the egr blanking plate should seal the exhaust 100%

i was speaking to an auto leccy specialist yesterday and he came up with another solution

if you block up the valve with it plugged in and working it will flag up an eml as the valve cant move, if you block the zaust holes with a blanking plate and leave the egr valve hooked up and bolted somewhere else you can get away with that

how about you block up the hole for the exhaust and leave the valve functioning and plugged in then it should work the same ?

like a small piece of metal like bottom of a cat food tin over one of the holes but leave the valve to move up and down

It probably wouldn't seal properly if you did that .. better to just fit the blanking plate and hang the valve off to one side as it's tried and tested. So too is the EGR cheater + blanking plate. Remember the blanking plate has to be fitted with the gasket for proper sealing ..

Forgot to say it's been ok since, so dunno what it was! - Will try and get a pic up over the weekend as its such a simple mod.

What does blanking off the egr do? my egr has registered fault codes and im wondering if i can just black it off and not run it - i have tried to clean the valve but it doesn't move!! any ideas?

where is this egr valve and where do i get the blanking plate for my vec b 2.2

the valve sits under the engine cover beside the steering pump

the blanking plate is about £3.50 from the dealer, egr plate: part number 24575592
