Well you know what they say about assumption!
Recently I purchased 5 new oil filters from ebay US to suit a 2.2 ecotec engine from the cavalier.
The guy listed the part numbers etc.. but I don’t even bother to check (…yea, I know!)
Anyway, when I received them I noticed some slight differences from the genuine GM filter brought from my local Holden dealer.
For starters, the part numbers are different. Genuine part # 93175493, the filters I got are ACDelco (which I assumed would be of an equal quality seeing as ACDelco make OEM parts, and are in fact owned by GM) part # PF457GF GM # 19168267
There are also a few physical differences, in that the length of the filter area is slightly longer and the ‘stick’ at the end, slightly shorter on the ACD product. There also appears to be less folds of filter material, so less surface area.
Also less bracing, and smaller attachment clips. Overall seems like a cheaper, lower quality product.
Has anyone used these, without issues?
Should I just bin them and learn my lesson? (I think I know the answer to this one).
Some pics, showing the difference:
