Funny "Clunky" Sound

When it's really cold in the morning/night, I've noticed that when I go over bumps, there is a really loud clunky/grinding sound coming from the drivers side front end. Sound like something on the suspension, and only does it when going over large bumps/speed bumps at slow speed. Doesn't do it during normal driving, and is not really noticible at any other times of the day, or when the temperature has increased.

I know this has been raised on Astra-Sport, but was wondering if anyone on here has experienced this?

You might have a snapped spring, my Astra had one so the last owner had them all replaced with upgraded ones. It may also be a loose caliper as I also had this problem on my vectra and it would only do this noise on speed humps.

Well I've had the wheels off today as I rotated the round to even the tread. Can't see anything glaringly obvious, spring looks OK, caliper is fine and secure. Isn't doing it at teh minute as the temperature is 9deg, but when it's below zero, it does it?

Hmm, tricky one then. Someone will probably get back to you on that one. I am lost on that problem

hi there ive had that problem aswell i took it to my local garage the just said it because the dampers were cold thats why i was getting the noise and once the cars been run it warms the grease inside the dampers

I also have this problem..when cold the front end makes hell of a noise over bumps,but when warm its fine...havent long fitted new shocks and springs and its still there....drives me mad and must sound awful from ourside th car....I'm a mot tester by trade and its baffling me...

Easy one - it's usually the front anti roll bar bushes that creak.

had em out...no wear...lubed em and refitted...still there...

Have you had the car lowered at all?

cars been lowered 35mm..but noise was there b4 and after...

Cool, thanks for all the replies, it does only do it when it is really cold, but once the car has warmed up, it doesn't do it. I think I notice it more because I only really drive to work and back, and it's only a 6 mile jurney, so by the time I'm getting home, the engine has only just warmed up, so I don't really drive it much when it's fully warmed up at the minute (which I know can't be doing th engine any good)
