3rd gear speed

Late last nite, out on my private test track i nailed it in third until the red line and got to 85mph

How does everyone else fair?

Im starting to think that the remus power pipe thing is limiting my power, the logic being its ment to be for a 1.6/1.8,
surely the mighty (cough cough) 2.2 needs a bigger diameter?

Those are the same as I get in my 1.6, although the 2.2 will get there a lot quicker

got 60 in second out of mine yesterday, tried 3rd but a roundabout was approaching so had to back off.

Thats a bit shit, I'd have thought that the VXR would be geared to do at least 100 in 3rd

yea but its gona get there alot faster init, my mate recons his 1.8 veccy does 100 in 3rd, it it does then it must be sum crazy gear ratio and prob wont go no faster lol

You'll find the reason the VXR won't do 90 in thrid is cos it has a close ratio box. Theory being that you stay in each gear for less time but keep the revs in the powerband and onto the next gear before you redline, hence needing a six speed box to get the best from it.

Flat out speed in each gear is not really a good test of a cars performance imo, as it depend so much on gear ratios and final drive ratios.
