urgent advice needed!!

im in the middle of blanking off my egr valve.

the plate is on fine (valve still attached and turned tothe side) and i've used a coke can for a blanking plate for the pipe at the egr end.

im stuck on the other end!!! what to use? i've butchered the old pipe, so thats no use really.

heard about using coins. if so which and how many? do you use the rubber gasket/seal thing too?

think i've just f***ed my engine!!

put the 2 2p coins and rubber gasket on. still not sealed properly. so went and bought some exhaust putty. put that round ouside of coins. fired her up.....still hissing and leaking air in. so put more on. then realised it was sucking the exhaust putty in!!!

so tried adjusting it while engine runing, they came loose. so quickly turned her off.

now im missing the rubber gasket thing. took tb off again. no sign of it! or all the exhaust putty i put round the edge!!

so think its inside my engine and f***ed it!!!!

Ooh fuck! May be worth removing the plugs and fuel pump fuse then crank the engine a few times and see if anything comes out. As for the seal, i would think that it'll be stuck in the inlet manifold. I have a manifold in the garage and a new pipe if you need a new one.

feul pump fuse?! i've got no idea what that is mate! lol. im not that knowledgable of engines!! (today has kinda proved that!lol)

i've just picked up me girlfriend (thank god i have use of another, old, car) and as she has got small hands (i think every body has smaller hands than me) im gonna get her to feel around inside it tomorrow.....thats love for you lol

i could just kick my self!! i didnt even need to remove the pipe!!

Have a look in your owners handbook and there will be a fuse for the fuel pump listed under Fuses. Pull it out and then you can crank the engine over without fuel going into the engine whilst you've got the plugs out. If unburnt fuel goes out down the exhaust manifold into the cat it could seriously damage the cat.

If you're not that confident, don't do it.

thats the thing, i aint confident. so gonna have to fork out more for a garage to strip it and investigate!!

that car has cost me soooooo much!!!!

what sort of cost you reackon on getting a garage to strip and fix? when i say fix, i mean clean out and replace pistons etc that could have the putty on!

cause looking at cost of cars, might be cheaper to buy new car! and put all my bits onto that!!

take the plugs out and put some petrol in the cylinders, probably dissolve the sealant - leave it overnight then put plugs in and start her up

as for the rubber gasket just hope

Trouble is with the fire paste, it goes hard with heat. If it goes out the manifold and into the cat it'll get blocked!

but recently bought a 200 cell sports cat!! was thinking about getting a replacement engine. or new car!

you guys have the know, how much would i be looking at if i was to get a garage to strip it down and clean/remove fire putty stuff and find the rubber gasket?

i've spent so much on car (discs, pads, battery etc) and yet there is still lots of bit wrong with her. was thinking it might be cheaper to buy new car! and put all my little bits (sound system, lights etc) onto new one.

maybe even get a 2.5 v6 or something.

i ran the car with about 3 bolts sitting in the sump and had no problems

if you concerned about the car then drop it out , only 3 bots on the manifold and let her run for a bit

im just worried that the exhaust putty will/has gone hard somewhere in the engine and the rubber grommet/gasket thing is in one of the cylinders.

im tempted to buy new pipe from vx and just drive as normal. but problem is, me and the missus, are driving to somerset for our holiday next sat. 300 miles. so dont want to get stuck!

I would say it's most likely ended up at the cat, well that would be the best place and cheapest to repair.

have you checked that the O ring seal hasn't just simply fallen down the front of the engine ?

use silicone sealant to seal the 2p's, let it set for a couple of hours before starting the engine.

today i think im gonna take out spark plugs and look inside, to see if any of the paste is in there.

also, atempt at removing inlet manifold and have a look in there for the rubber o ring. cause the engine was running when thre 2ps slipped and then i pulled them out and couldnt find the rubber o ring seal! which makes me think its somewhere inside.

only couple of months ago i bought a new cat! a £400 200cell sports one! so hope it aint f***ed that up!

and did you reuse the o ring seal or just the two 2ps?

you should use the O ring, but sealant will also work

thats if the engine aint f***ed and i find the o ring in the inlet (doubtfull) looked on floor and engine, no chance. it has gone in.

but how far?!?!? that is the question!!! lol
