Spannaz After a bit of advice pleeeeease. Have a Vectra 2.2 with 65k on the eingine, FSH was actually fitted by vauxhall after 1st one let go of the chain. Now the rear camshaft has snapped clear in 2 on cylinder 4. Garage says no valve damage but i doubt that. Is this worth stripping and repairing or should i just consider replacing the entire thing, or scrap the car. 2001 CDX estate vectra so has all the toys and is a straigh car. I have had issues in the past with th balance shafts on these but camshaft snapping is a new one on me.
vocky I've only heard of that once before, basically the oil way blocked and the cam seized. might be worth stripping it down to see if it's repairable, if the valves stayed closed then there would be no valve damage
Spannaz Cheers Vocky. I think it's gonna get stripped and sold for spare. Shamea sengine is low mileage, but if its not damaged the valves it might be worth something to someone with a damaged bottom end and possibly salvage the head, but it has scored the cam carrier quite badly. 20k service intervals!!!!! on normal 10/40!!! Shocking
philip1 20k service intervals are awful long and they may have contributed to the cam failure. If this were my car the service intervals would never exceed 5k and I would strongly recommend on your next engine/car stick to shorter intervals. The oil may say it's good for 20k but your filter isn't.
