tell him to stop running the engine and get the cam chain replaced, it sounds like it's about to snap !
the guides become brittle and break up or the tensioner can fail or the normal engine killer is the oil jet blocks
expect to pay about £130 for the parts, it's quite easy to change (if you can change a cambelt then the camchain is easier)
