Cheap engine or Not????

Hi i have the option of a Z22se that has broken its timing chain its been offered to me for £100 just wondering if i should take it or not its out of a 2001 vectra. My engine is in a 2003 vectra c but has a nice hole in the front of the block under the oil filter due to something hitting it.

Just wondering if you guys think its worth buying at that price and using the parts from both engines to build one good one or do i leave it and find a good one????
Or be really cheeky and knock him down for a cheaper deal???????

Anyone????? just looking for advice thats all. If someone thinks its a good deal then i will go for it cheers..

It might be worth it, you should be able to salvage some spare parts from it.

depends why you have a damaged block, was it due to a snapped conrod or accident damage, if it's just accident damage then use the block from the snapped chain engine and the head from the damaged block engine, it would be best to swap the pistons as they too get damaged when the valves hit them.

Cheers Vocky, My engine has a hole in the front of it due due something bouncing up off the road and through the housing where th oil filter goes. dunno..

does the engine still turn or is it seized ?

??????????????? Good question not checked that yet as the offending item hit the starter motor too!!! will have to give it a go. Why do you ask?

if the car was being driven and an object smashed the oil filter housing the oil pressure would be lost straight away.

The result would be a seized or internally damaged engine, inspection of the bigend bearings will confirm whether any damage has been done - these suffer first.

Right then been outside had a play around, The engine is a free as anything. So thats good news hopefully bearings will be fine too. 😃 😃 😃
