First Track Day

Hi, I have a Vec B SRi 150 (unmodified) that I'll be taking on the track for the first time very soon - most likely Bedford. I was wondering if anyone here had any advice on what I should check before hand besides the obvious fluid levels, tyre presure etc.. Also if anyone can give me a clue to the likely costs in terms of wear I'm likely to incur on the brakes, tyres, amount of petrol for an open pit day etc.?

you really need to fit uprated front brake pads, mintex 1144 etc, as the brakes tend to fade after a while.

tyres will take a hammering, dependent on how you drive, also make sure you have plenty of fuel too :lol:

you will quickly realise that your suspension isn't that great, bilstein B8's will soon be on your wish list 🙂

How fresh is your brake fluid - may be worth changing, makes quite a difference to how long you'll be able to stay out for!

Make sure you get plenty of heat into the tyres before getting carried away

You'll prob find a tank of fuel will be enough, make sure it's topped up before you get there (with premium of course!) my mpg goes up after a good track day - talk about blowing the cobwebs out

What tyres are you running at the moment? The wear will be related to how soft they are (I scrubbed the outer edge off my T1R's, but would hardly touch a set of Bridgestones)

Hankook Ventus R-S2 tyres are a very highly recommended tyre by Mark Watts from Courtenay Sport for track day tyres. Also Toyo R888's are very good.

I don't suppose you know the starting tread depth of the R S 2s :eh:

One of the biggest drawbacks of R888s/A048s/V70s is they only start with 4-5mm instead of the usual 8mm

Thanks for the tips, to answer the question above I'm running Goodyear Eagle F1's on the front at the moment - put them on about 1000miles ago. Got some other Goodyears - NCT5's on the back still. Not sure when the brake fluid was last done - I've only had the car for about 4000miles, so may look at changing it anyway.
