2.2 power?

hello, i have a 2.2 vectra sri estate on a y plate. what is the best engine mod i can do without spending thounds of pounds? i have put in a k&n pannel filter which made no difference. heard 2.4 inlet is good but i can't find where to get one.

Don't bother with the 2.4 inlet manifold unless you are going down the cams and head work route. Best thing you can do is remove the precat. Doing it yourself costs nothing. Fit a 200 cell sport cat and get yourself a Magnex 2.5 inch catback system. All should be achievable for less than £500 with definate power gains. Daz could also make you up a custom 2.5 inch downpipe too. That little lot should see you up around 170bhp.

sorry to sound like a novice, what is a precat? how do i get it off and do i need to replace it with anything?

The precat is situated in the top of the downpipe that joins to the exhaust manifold. Its a honeycombe section of material that can be removed to gain some more power. Its not needed to pass the MOT. Your car can live without it. You would ideally need to get under the car. Disconnect the sensors front and back of the downpipe. Undo the downpipe at the centre section then shuffle along to the front end and undo 3 bolts holding the downpipe to the manifold.

There are a few threads on how to do this job in the Tuning/Exhaust section. You should use a new gasket when refitting.

removing the pre cat and getting 200 cell sport cat + Magnex 2.5 inch catback system and have dropped Daz a pm for a custom 2.5 inch downpipe, + the aibox mods will give you around 170bhp, worth a trip to get a remap after that? what would it push out?

If you don't intend on doing any other mods after that lot then you would be wise to get the remap done to make the most of things. I would suggest a Live map on a rolling road. A generic SuperChips map won't really do it the justice.

I’d say you were looking at another 15bhp from a remap with that set up. Hard to be 100% accurate of course as a lot depend on the work done and the car but that would about right.

A remap will certainly help, especially with mid range driveability and
response I would expect the gains to be 15-18 bhp over standard with the
items you list plus a map with a good improvement in mid range torque.

wid 190 bhp does it make a diffrents ???? i mean what kind of cars ya be keeping up wid ??? coz the gsi has 190 bhp but would a astra wid 190 bhp keep up wid a gsi lol ????

TBH, with what I have learnt over the last few years, you ain't going to get 15bhp out of mapping a NA engine. You will probably see 175bhp tops after mapping with the above listed mods.

As for the amount of money that i've spent at Courtenay, to date £11k+ and then add some more!!. And every penny was worth it!
