TURBOING THE 2,2 & ITS STRENTHS & BAD POINTS

HI gents well here we go i an new here but not new to turboed forged motors ect,

right. i want to kno do i get a 2,2 na or a turbo vx 220, if i get a turbo i will bin the turbo, manifold. the intercooler. injectors. balance shafts. exhaust. cat. ect.

so i am thinking do i get an n a. & just turbo that they are wads cheeper & will leave me with cash for parts.

so how much power can the 2,2 take, where can i get pistons n rods & how much. is it a gud head, & how much power can the block take, is the head same stud patern as the turbo, is there headgasket probs. bean told the 200 sx manfold can be used. i want 360 hp. with poss a 50 shot of nitrous now & again.

please chime in with any info or ideas you have. cum on lads get posting. thanks for looking. D :thumbup: :mrgreen:

well the only sort of info i can give you in the turbo kit fo the N/A is over 4k which will only give you about 240bhp

the weakest part of the z22se engine is the old style timing chain, fitted to pre 2003 models

it costs about £130 for the new parts

the other weak points, if you can call them that, are the con rods (max 285bhp) and running low on oil (throws a con rod bearing)

you can get new eagle steel rods and wiseco pistons from http://www.allecotec.com/

or ebay.com is usually good for turbo manifolds, but I'm sure allecotec can supply these if you asked

as for power, the z22se has been tuned to well over 1000 bhp in the states, but around 500bhp is much cheaper :lol:

If you do go ahead would be nice if you could do a step by step guide in the project section would make a good read so take plenty of pics.

Hoping the AEM FIC. will do the job. but have not used one yet.

please keep us up to date with your progress mate, i will be turbo charging mine at some point and it would be good see you go through doing it first haha!!

Hopefully our Dutch friend will get somewhere with his software .. might be able to use the stock ECU in that case.

Just sold my GT35 and decided against a turbo build... just ain't enough space in the Astra bayto hand a big enough snail a tthe back of the block....

Porbably be ok wit hsomething small - but you gotta wonder what the point is then!
