Poor Idling

Hi,

Can anyone help me? My Vectra C seems to struggle finding its idle speed. When the clutch is engaged the revs drop to just below 500rpm causing the lights to dim and the heater to slow down, without giving the car any gas it will rev its self to about 1000rpm and then spend the next few seconds reving between 700 and 800 rpm before settling.

When the revs have settled the car ticks over fine, the car also drives fine apart from when your in slow moving traffic as the revs dont get chance to settle. From when the revs start to drop until they settle takes around 3 -5 seconds, Is this normal on a vectra c.

Also no matter what the engine temp the car idle speed never exceeds 1000rpm, where my previous car would idle at about 1500rpm till the engine got to temp.

Please can anyone shed some light!!

Forgot to mention car has just had new spark plugs, fuel filter and air filter

First thing i would do is clean the throttle body, an easy DIY job with some carb cleaner.

Then it may be a faulty EGR valve or maybe coil pack?

Sure some Vec C or other mods might be able to shed some more light on this for you.

As said above ,I would start with cleaning out the throttle body and breathers and if it's still problematic then whip off the EGR valve as they do tend to get choked up and try cleaning that .

does sound like a dirty throttle body or a dodgy egr valve
