Whats up guys. There is a lot of awesome stuff here.
Im from Michigan, United States. I've been pretty much in a cave when it comes to 'tuning' and modifying outside of the U.S. Its good to see you guys are doing it just as strong as us.
A few months ago I came across an Opel Speedster Turbo in a video game (Forza 2 for xbox360) and I started to research it.
Low and behold it was powered by my favorite engine, the ecotec.
Ive been searching the forums here for a while. and have found a lot of similarities. I like to read and see what other groups do as far as improving performance, you guys def have a niche for some crazy stuff not normally seen in the States. Hopefully I can learn alot of stuff about you guys.
A little bit about my project. My project car is a 1985 Pontiac Fiero Sports Coupe. I purchased it with a 3.8v6 that was swapped into. I had then swapped a L61 2.2L ecotec in it, using the stock fiero transmission I purchased an adapter plate and I machined a spacer to mount the flywheel. This allowed me to use a variety of transmissions if I wanted to since the ecotec bellhousing now is a general FWD General Motors pattern.

To run the motor I acquired a sponsorship and purchased a Megasquirt Standalone ECM. I ripped out all the stock wiring that wasnt needed and got her going. A had a few issues which created a huge problem.
You guys should be fimilar with the weak point in the L61 Ecotec, the ringlands. With my ignition setup, it had a base timing advance of 10 degrees, I was unaware so when I had it running at 29degrees it was 29+10 =39!!! This lead to me blowing ringlands 4 times, twice on the same cylinder, at which point finally lowered compression. Even with blow ringlands I had perfect compression!

That was last year.
This year I decided to go one step farther. I purchased a 2.4L LE5 Ecotec. I tore the VVT head off of it (mostly because I could not take advantage of VVT with my ecm) I the used the L61 head and the LE5 bottom end, which is AWESOME. This is the motor you guys used the intake manifold off of (The motor I purchased the inlet ((its intake for us Americans lol)) manifold was broke 🙁) the bottom end is far stronger, it uses a 60-2 crank wheel, oil squirters for the pistons, and stronger higher compression pistons. See here:

Its been installed for a few months and just recently got it running decent.
I find I have more incommon you guys, as I am among the first "mid-engine ecotec" in the states, but its nothing uncommon over on your side! I have alot of questions for you guys. Hopefully I can benefit and use some of your guys techniques to better my car!
