Alarm siren keeps going off.

I Have an Astra 2.2 Coupe, yesterday the alarm went off by its self about 8 times, started at about 12 and carried on until about 11pm (VARIOUS OCCASIONS). When i drove it to work this morning i had no problems, as soon as i got out of the car, it started chirping/bleeping a bit strangely, then the alarm siren started going off, <u>without</u> me even activating it!!

The siren was going off like nobodys business this morning, could not shut it up, with the alarm activated & un-activated.

I disconnected the battery left it for 3 hours, the re-connected it, when i put the leads on, the car started bleeping for about 2 seconds, then stopped.
Its been 5 hours since i re-connected the battery and no siren going off since. (TOUCH WOOD).

Any suggestions guys??

Your Power Sounder unit needs replacing ASAP. Its a dealer job as it will need to be recoded to the ECU. I'm sure its around £140 fitted? I had our replaced on our Zafira recently. It was a right pain in the ass. The alarm would go off at all sorts of hours and the locals weren't very happy.

the battery in the alarm siren is dieing so send off false readings. u need a new unit from vauxhall as soon as u done that will be fine.

johnny it can be done not in the dealer. u just need to know how to. i replace mine over 2 months ago now and its been fine since and the siren still works.

You can even split the unit and replace the battery. Is much easier to get a new unit. Try www.autovaux.com. You dont need a dealer to install the new sounder, but it has to be done in a spacific way.

vauxhall said unit would be around £70, i can imagine its easy enough to change, ignition on, Wheel off, arch cover back, replace unit, how hard can it be??

Cant imagine it needs recoding?? Thats just a Dealer Rip off scam surely??

Is the above correct?, Does it need recoding to the ECU?

no does not need coding in mate there is a page on astraownersclub on how to do it all. i think i paid £55 for min from vx. i think they have stopped selling them batterys but u hav to solider them in to the unit.

Well I stand corrected. If you are competent at a DIY job then you'll get it done far cheaper. Unfortunately I had mine done at the dealer and it was coded to the ECU.

Rip it out until you can afford to replace it. double check that this does not void your insurance though. P.S i heard to test if the alarm still goes off is pop the bonnet but dont lift it lock the door and open the bonnet the alarm should go off even without the Power sounder.

TBH i am not 100% what the power sounder is for?

I'm onto my second one in the space of six months as the last one i bought started going off at random again!! Luckily you get 12 months parts warranty from Vaux so they just replaced it for me. TBH if it didn't invalidate my insurance i wouldn't bother putting one back on.

Five minute job to do though, piece of p*ss, even for someone as completely useless with a spanner as I am! 😃
