Hi sorry not looked on this thread for a bit, i can answer that for you.
s/s always makes a tingin noise when cold and i have noticed that it rasps alot more with the manifold on. that is the way s/s is nice a noisey.
what you have got to think is that as you said the cast is very thick and the s/s is about 1mm thick maybe a bit more.
i gave my bolts a cheack over after 100 miles of use to make sure none had come lose.

thought so.. if you've ever started an engine without any exhaust it sounds like that... only much much much quieter 😛

So.......how does the car feel now? Have you noticed a different feel since fitting?

if I'm honest, I've not noticed a difference, although I'm sure there wil be one. I haven't been SCd very long and today was the first day the roads are fully dry for me so I've never really pushed with the old setup. (We'll find out in march at the courtenay rr day 🙂 )

I've gone from dbilas manifold>milltek 2" cat>milltek 2" back box

piper manifold>piper 2.5 cat> milltek 2.5" back box (vx turbo one)

There is quite a big noise increase with the milltek turbo box that I wasn't expecting (hope it's still suitable for fussy tracks)

Castle Combe has noise restrictions. You have to fit a muffler if its above regulations. Not so long ago, the residents of Castle Combe were trying to get the track shut down.

As for increase of noise on mine, I doubt i'll notice any difference. I've got 2.5 inch Milltek cat back, 2.5 inch S/S Courtenay Downpipe with 200 cell cat. Somehow I don't think it can get much louder! pmsl..

It is a very refined and conservative loud though! rofl..

So I assume it's the same for the other variants.

That part is the manifold itself, the gasket is 9230949 :thumbup:

Woud've been easier if the manifold fitted onto the head studs properly.. and if it had connecting studs to the downpipe rather than wobbly bolts 🙁

But it's done now and I can hopefully never have to do it again 😃

Mine was a complete c**k as well, ad the same problems as you with the head studs. Also the studs above the manifold pipes couldnt get a socket on the nut, so had to do them up with a open ended spanner.
I've gone from Standard mani -> Milltek DP -> Milltek backbox
to Piper Mani -> 2.5" Piper DP -> Milltek

My noise has changed, it sounds slightly lower with a crisper/harsher note. Not sure if its any louder (which is a good thing) but sounds :thumbup: to me!

Fitted mine Sat night. Took her for a spin yesterday. Hard to tell difference as i have not driven it in about a month but there is def no flat spots and its a smooth power delivery. Don't get any tinging sounds but i have put my heatshield on. Already running a 2.5" system with 200 cell cat, miltek non-resonated centre and Irmscher backbox just sounds nice imo. Since fitting the manifold have noticed the system doesnt backfire and pop as much when you coast down. All in all very pleased good job by Piper and all involved.

Manifold + downpipe arrived yesterday.
Will take out the dremel to smooth out some excessive welds inside, but overall it looks fine.

The flange looks pretty warped. This will straighten after heating up a few times? No problems with fitting if tightened evenly?

The warped flanges are very common and nothing to be concerned about. Its where we weld the primaries into the flange the heat distorts it. When you fit it to the car, just ensure you use a new gasket and torque the bolts to the correct setting. Then check them 500 miles later to ensure they are all still okay.

After that, just enjoy many miles of happy motoring 😃

yes but the hard bit is getting it on at all (before you can tighten the bolts).. especially with no space on the vx

nope.. 🙁 If I had to do it again I'd invest in some ratchet spanners.. know the ones I mean, they're spanners but have ratchet on the circular end... they would make it a lot easier 🙂
