What should connect here?

Can anyone help me identify this plug connector? Its right on the bottom of the engine.

Where on the loom should the connector be that fits into it and what does it do??

it is the oil sump sensor

it is a seperate sensor to that of the oil pressure switch usually located near the oil pump

this sensor is hooked up to ya trip computer and will say you have a low level of oil if the oil level drops below that sensor, very similiar to your coolant sensor located in the expansion tank

vxhall started using these sensors back in 1992 on the mrk3 astra gsi's as well as other cars

as above, usually the vectra B has this feature, the vx220 doesn't, not sure about the astra or zafira

are these a common thing to leak? as i think that might be where im loosing oil.

if is, is it a case of getting new one or just getting new gasket/seal or buy some sealant off the shealf?

The astra does have one, its very handy seeing that they burn so much oil.

I can't remember whether it can be resealed or you need a new gasket

how nuch are the sensors then? and big job to replace?
