Timing chain/tensioner problem

Hi, i am a newbie and desperatley need advice.
I have bought a 54 plate vectra C (2.2 direct SRI) with 22yh engine. i got this car 3 months ago and has 32,000 miles. Long story short, the engine conked out on me, so i took it back to the dealer, they initially said the timing chain had snapped, cost to me £2800!!! told them it was under warranty and they changed the problem to the tensioner had failed causing the chain to fail!
Been on to Vauxhall who offered to pay 50%, still not happy.
Any advice anyone??

Hi Trev - Sad to hear of your problems. Our car had the same earlier in the year and I had a bit of a win with GM. We are in country Victoria, Australia and I went to the local Holden dealer (over here the the Zaffi is badged Holden) and said I wanted to make a claim for the job as I had researched the event and found that it should have been recalled blah blah. I was surprised how quickly they came back with an offer: to pay half the parts. I was not satisfied so I had to take it up with GMH direct. Didn't hold out for much but 2 weeks later the State Manager for Customer Relations gave me a bell and said they would pay for all the parts, the reconditioning of the head and do the job at warranty rates which meant reduced workshop rate and a ceiling on how many hours they would charge. In the end they charged me $673 for 8 hours labour and consumables and the job has a Holden 20,000km warranty. Perhaps I could have pushed for more but I was pretty pleased with the outcome considering the car is 7 years old with 90,000km. Suggest you push Vauxhall gently. Each case decided on its merits - we had full service history and the car had always been serviced through that dealership, even though we were not the original owners.
