Let the re-build commence ..

Well every journey starts with the first step. Mine was buying a second engine to begin rebuilding.

Picked this up today for £80.

The seller says it was a dealer removed warranty job and has had 2 connecting rod caps removed. He says the rest of the engine looks in good condition (including the timing chain) so I've no idea why it was reeplaced under warranty. dunno..

I guess in a few weeks it'll be stripped back and more will be revealed..

May be an out of repair tolerance crank issue (lack of oil damage)

I guess it would be the most common "check the rods and decide to change the whole engine" cause

sounds like the conrods will need changing, they go oval and cause a knocking noise - big ends gone

As long as the crank is OK I am not worried about the rods or pistons .. will be upgrading them with stronger components.

it's normally the bearings melt and then the conrods get hot and go oval, crank should be fine 🙂

Yep if the bearings are fine, there normally should be no crank issue

some bloke on ebay.com is selling z22se new pistons with rings for about 50 quid

took delivery of the engine today .. it's lighter than i thought. me and a mate were able to lift it off the back of the ute and into the workshop.

soon i will begin stripping it down to see how bad things are .. it's been sitting about untouched for 3 years .. hmm

go see bennetts wreckers in dandinong .. they'll charge you about $500 for a similar motor. I was originally going to buy one from them buy one from them but it seems my procrastination has paid off 🙂

I actually called them not so long ago. He told me, around $500 for just the block, another $500 for a head, that's without any manifold or accessories :shock:
When I asked how much for a complete motor he told me around 4K :lol:
They've got a get selection of parts, but know how to charge.
