Mystery Cover

Guys, on the 2.2 (non-direct) there is an oval shaped cover on engine block/ head passengers side just to the left of the EGR valve held on by 2 x bolts, any ideas what's behind this as I appear to have a slight oil leak at the bottom of this, hope this makes sense!

I would have thought that would be the blanking plate that covers the end of the cam shaft so you could remove it and replace cam shaft seal that should cure the leak.

looks like the one. remove it and you should see the seal easy little DIY job

Just an update; finally got round to replacing the seal behind the cover a few weeks ago , but noticed the other day that it still seems to weep only very slightly, would it be wise to whip off the cover again and smear some hermatite sealant on the mating surfaces as well as leaving the oil seal in there, then bolt up ?

Finally got round to re-sealing the camshaft cover; smeared some sealant on the mating surface on the head and then onto the cover (and around the outer edges of cover), put the rubber seal onto the cover and refiited cover, so to sum up , I have effectively got sealant on either side of the rubber seal and around outer mating face of the cover, hopefully this will be ok and stop the leak?
